The top show is of a painting I began November 19, 2007 and completed on January 16, 2008.  The Hanes Companies in Winston-Salem, NC, selected thirty artists out of about sixty who submitted examples to make a painting to be hung in their new corporate headquarters.  The one below now hangs in the office of the Chief Financial Officer.  I usually have a basic idea to the composition but compose as I go along, letting the painting dictate what it needs.  You will see how things change if you watch the entire slideshow.  I began knowing I wanted the first two figure you see in the opening slides.  After that, the painting evolved.

The bottom slideshow shows progress on a painting begun a few years ago.  I was never happy with it and it was put away, hidden.  In the fall of 2007, I found it again and undertook the process of repainting most all of it.  This slideshow reveals the process and flaws and the way it now is after the reworking.   It might appear similar to the original, but in many ways it is a totally new painting today.    Remember, paintings are never finished.   It was recently accepted into the North Carolina Artists Exhibition.
